Abolition of the Death Penalty: Move Forward, America How can America move forward when they are breaking their own laws and morals in attempt to punish prisoners? Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the act of killing a criminal whose offense was severe enough. Thirty-one of the fifty states in America practice the death penalty. The lethal injection procedure was first performed in Texas in 1982 and is the primary form of execution in America now (â€Å"State by State Lethal Injection†, 1). The injections are typically three separate parts, one to make the criminal unconscious, one to stop the breathing, and the last to stop the heartbeat. Capital punishment is viewed by some as morally good and just, however there is much more to this act of violence than people consider. The death penalty needs to be abolished in America due to the hypocrisy of law, moral being, global recognition, and financial benefits. The first sign of hypocrisy within American law is in the United States Constitution’s 5th amendment. This amendment states that, â€Å"[no person should] be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law† (â€Å"The United States Constitution†, 5th amendment). â€Å"Due process† means that each person is held to the highest standard of respect and fairness when it comes to their trial. Comparative Analysis of the Aeneid, Odyssey, and Iliad The Iliad and the Odyssey are two of the best Greek epics written by Homer. Despite their popularity, almost nothing is known about the author beyond the existence of his masterpieces. Surprisingly enough no concrete evidence of his existence is available; not even to confirm the same person created the two works. The authorship of the Iliad and the Odyssey were debated even in the times of the ancient Greeks. Many scholars have argued that Homer did not compose the Iliad and the Odyssey; only compiled over the centuries by many different storytellers. My work experience at South London Press Essay Near the end of last year, my schools work experience co-coordinator came to us and told us it was time to begin planning for work experience, which begins on July 7th till the 16th. Due to fact Ive always wanted to work experience because older children in the past have said it has been fun and enjoyable, plus you get to work in typical work environment. Although work experience has gained praise I believe work experience is about learning new skills, learning new ideas, working as part of a team and having the ability to communicate. Although our work experience co-ordinator said do not restrict yourself to just the job you believe your going to do in the future, but try to get a job which youre interested in. With that in mind I began applying for placements in my field of interest Media, before the Christmas holidays I sent out a number of application forms which had included a cover letter, a c. v. And a permission letter from work experience co-ordinator Ms McQuaid. During the holidays I waited for replies from my choice of placements but I heard nothing. So when I came back after the new Year I sent of thirty five new applications to various sections in media, these included KISS 100, Capital fm, XFM, Channel FIVE, The Sun, The Daily Mirror and The South London Press. When it came to February I began to get various replies however they were all rejections. Reasons they would say include Im under 18, I applied too late and that the placements for July were all taken. Seen as I had applied to fifty placements I still had a chance to get the placement of my choice, with my co-ordinator breathing down our necks to tie down a placement or risk getting one not of your choice in somewhere like Sainsburys stacking shelves. So with that in mind I began phoning the placements I applied for. This was very hectic but my school gave me the time to do so during games lessons and at lunch times when I needed to do so. Whilst phoning around I came into contact with many helpful people some not so co-operative, I found the larger companies had the worst attitudes. With ten chances left to get a placement of my choice I phoned South London Press and spoke to Kara the assistant to publishing director at South London Press. She asked me my interests and I told her she then said to come for an interview on the 18th of April. The same day Kara agreed to have an interview with the Big Issue had accepted for a placement. I kept this opportunity open and still went for the interview for the South London Press. The interview was on the 18th of April, on the day I had to take with my cover letter, permission letter and c.v. The day was very sunny and the journey was simple, take Victoria line tube to Victoria then the Southwest Train to Streatham Hill Station The location of SLP. When I arrived I greeted the reception and asked for them to call Kara. I waited for two minutes and Kara came and she took me to the interview room where she discussed dates with me and then told me I had got the placement which I was happy with. With the struggle to gain a placement out of the way I had to begin filling in health and safety forms and looking up information on SLP. The months flew by and by time I had looked three months had passed and it was time for the whole of year tens induction to work experience, which was the 5th July. On this day we got a thirty-six-page work experience diary, which had to be filled out through out the placement period, which was help. The induction lasted for a morning. On Friday I also phoned Kara to see what time I started and finished, the times were 10am till 4pm. On the following Monday work experience began, I travelled to Streatham hill for 10am, on my mind was to find out what makes this paper so good that people in South London pay 35p twice a week. The first day was good; it went by at considerable speed as many of the staff was rushed of their feet as Monday was deadline day for tomorrow Tuesdays newspaper. One the Monday I was kept quite busy . I toured the building, did the post, surfed the internet looking at national weekly newspaper sales, designed a questionnaire for a interview later in the week, looked at past issues of the SLP. I also did various other things like enveloping and the post. However during the week things moved faster and I learned a lot of new things, much of what I wanted to learn. Although I learned a lot, I also had to do a lot admin work which included filing, photocopying, enveloping ands loads of handing out bulletin leaflets to all four floors. At times it became tedious; I knew it was part of work for everybody even the Series Editor. On the placement I learned how to frank mail, use the feeder on the photocopier and I learnt how to bind papers, I think learned these skills because I enjoyed. Enveloping was the task I least enjoyed, so adding salt to the wound. I did loads of it. At the start of the placement I came across something typical of work environment, it took place in the restroom where the vending machines are, to girls came in and began bitching about other girls in the Tele Sales department and my supervisor looked at me and said thats typical. Another funny time was when I went out with the sales rep Matt Best over the day we travelled to Catford, Eltham and Charlton whilst driving to these locations he kept me laughing with his sexual innuendoes and his comments to other drivers. On the return to SLP Kara told me I went out with the funniest man in the building, which was true. The last of the funny encounters came on the last day in the sports desk, the three sports journalists Tobi (editor) and Hasim and Chris (reporters) were jokes about members of staff and lower league football teams came all the time. On my first day, Kara my supervisor said it was important that I interview the Series Editor, as this would enlighten me on how things are run in an environment like SLP. As this was the first morning to prepare the questionnaire for Friday. She gave me newspapers and various Internet sites to aid me in putting together a good questionnaire. The newspapers did help but the Internet sites I found were not precise enough on what I was looking for. The end result was a two pages with 17 questions regarding various areas in journalism and a career in journalism in media it took me just over two hours to complete in the end I was happy with it. On Friday my interview was postponed because of shortage of staff, so on Tuesday out of the blue Kara gave the chance to do the interview before I left on the Wednesday. As Hannah Walker the Series Editor was absent I interviewed the deputy Series editor Shujual Azam. He was very willing to answer all my questions, I found out he likes the aspect of journalism and but he dislikes the admin. I also asked how many people are under his wing in SLP, he said, Sub editors, promotions, sports journalists. During my interview I asked him what he achieved through his career he said a lot things, a well paid job and a nice house. Regarding achievements, I believe over my eight-day placement I picked up many new skills. Like how to count paper fast, quick way how to work VAT. At the beginning of my placement I wrote out targets which I wanted to achieve from my placement at South London press. They where to see the layout of a paper, undertake aspects of work placements without supervision, to manage free time effectively, be able to work in a team, to be flexible, to record various types of information on a database. As you can see from my targets, I set my standards high. Although I had a few problems with achieving my targets, however I achieved 95% of my targets under the supervision of Kara who wrote my achievement in my report when my teacher came to visit. One of my targets I would like to improve on in the future is my information technology skill. At SLP it was very difficult to do this because their was not that much I. T work to do apart from mail merging addresses and writing up a letter in Microsoft Word for the South London Press sponsored heros awards. The one an half weeks spent on work experience I found was very enjoyable, I achieved nearly 100% of my targets set, found out a lot about the background to producing a weekly regional newspaper. I believe the placement in South London Press was very fundamental for my future as underlined what I believed and that is that my career is in media very much the journalism side and not football. My time at South London Press would have not been achieved if wasnt for help from my Ms McQuaid, Kara McIlvaney, June Brown, Ms Ross, Ms Schmidt and myself. The social learning theory proposes that crime is learned through the ongoing process of socialization, and is especially important during young childhood. Different important social units that influence a child’s behavior are their family, school, peers, and community. There are some important predictors of crime that can be discussed from a social-learning perspective, including gender, and delinquency. The four major concepts of the social learning theory are: differential association, differential reinforcement/punishment, definitions, and imitation (Skinner, & Fream 1997). Differential association refers how people exposed to different social environments have the opportunity to observe, and learn different behavior (Skinner, & Fream 1997). Children who are exposed to a behavior are given the opportunity to observe, and imitate a behavior and are therefore more likely to adopt that behavior than children who are not exposed to it. Children who are not exposed to certain behaviors will not be able to imitate them. Therefore a person who has been exposed to an environment that incorporates crime is more likely to commit a crime in their lifetime than a person that has not been exposed to an atmosphere that includes crime. Imitation is important when a behavior is first observed because one way to learn, and incorporate a behavior is to practice it in reality or in fantasy (Skinner, & Fream 1997). Children are likely to imitate a range of behaviors that they observe to test them out. The behavior can be learned through modelling, internalizing, and conforming to behavior that is deemed favourable. A child that observes criminal behavior may practice it in fantasy, or imitate it in reality. This rehearsal causes the behavior to be stored in the memory of the child and therefore becomes retrievable in the right circumstances. Atomic Bombing on Japan Essay On the morning of August 6th, 1945 at around 8:16 a. m. , the United States dropped the first bomb on Hiroshima. This bomb was given the nickname â€Å"Little Boy. † Three days after the first atomic bomb was dropped, on August 9th, 1945 at around 11:02 a. m. , the United States dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki. This bomb was given the nickname â€Å"Fat Man. † These two bombs immensely destroyed these cities and took the lives of many people. There was an estimated 200,000 lives taken in the atomic bombing on Japan. The war on the Pacific had been going on for over four years before the atomic bombing occurred. There were two big battles that could have led to the United State’s decision of dropping the atomic bomb, the Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In these two battles there was an astounding amount of deaths taken in these battles from both sides. While both sides of the Japanese and American soldiers fought vigorously taking the many lives of one another, the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima was a military necessity for the United States. The reason why the dropping of the atomic bomb was a military necessity is because there was nothing else to force Japan to surrender. President Harry S. Truman asked the Japanese to surrender on August 3rd, 1945 or face devastation, but the Japanese failed to meet the deadline. Truman ordered the air force to use the new atomic weapons against Japan. Some argued that if we would had waited a few more weeks, Japan would have surrendered. Others argued that there was no other way to persuade the Japanese to surrender but the atomic bombing. Truman said this was a simple military mission. He said a weapon was available to quickly end the war so he sees no reason not to use it. The alternative to dropping the atomic bomb was a ground invasion in Japan, which would have caused heavy losses to our American troops. From my perspective, I believe that the atomic bombing of Hiroshima was necessary for the preservation and security of our nation. At the time of this incident, the United States was involved in World War II serving as part of the Allied Powers. Therefore, on the morning of December 7th, 1941, the Japanese decided to implement surprised attacks on Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was a US Navy base located in Hawaii. The United States was not expecting these attacks at all. I feel that the attack on Hiroshima was retaliation for the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Although we may have gone a little over board, it had to be done to establish that the US was not a nation to be messed with. The Japanese’s opportunity to fight back was over after the first atomic bomb was discharged because the navy was taken out, the inability to import food and the lack of industrial supplies. In addition the second atomic bomb was dropped to seal the victory over Japan. Although both Japan and the United States suffered great losses from the altercations, Japan was left with much more trauma. The first atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima immediately killed an estimated amount of 66,000 people out of a population of 255,000. The second bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki instantly killed about 35,000 people. However, a numerous amount of soldiers and citizens of Japan did not immediately die. These bombings lead to an awful amount of physical effects that dismembered the country of Japan for many years. Many individuals of Japan either died or suffered from radiation burns, cancer, leukemia, and many other physical disorders. Research shows that radiation increases the long-term risks of cancer. At the time of the bombing, many pregnant women gave birth to children with congenital malformations because of the contact with radiation. After the bombing, there were said to be 6,500 orphans in the city of Hiroshima. Despite the many people that were killed in the bombings, Americans saved many lives on both sides by not invading Japan. The city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was essentially wiped out by the two atomic bombs. The bombs fiercely took out anything in its path. Not one thing or person within 800 meters of the bomb’s blast survived. Only parts of two buildings were standing after the bomb at the explosion site. The survivors in Japan had to clean up over 11. 5 square kilometers of debris and dead bodies after the bombing. This process took Japan four years to clear up. The bombings also cost Hiroshima $2 billion in damage. There were an estimated 60,000 to 90,000 buildings destroyed by the atomic bombing in Hiroshima. And an additional 14,000 buildings destroyed in Nagasaki. To conclude, the atomic bomb dropped on Japan by the United States was indeed a military necessity. The position of the United States at the time left our country with no other choice but to establish superiority; we needed to end the war. There was little sympathy for an enemy who had stimulated the fight and had behaved the way Japan had. Also, Japan’s surprise attacks on Pearl Harbor had left many Americans pleading for revenge. The atomic bomb did just that, wiping out almost entirely two cities in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Although much tragedy and trauma had resulted from the attacks of both countries, the sacrifices were necessary and appropriate.

There are many things in the world that I am mildly passionate about, including sports such as golf and swimming, animals, family, friends and school. But there is only one thing that I am extremely passionate about and that is music. There is something about music and how it can have such a significant effect on my everyday life. Music is something everyone hears at least once a day. Our world is filled by music. I have a great passion for music. It provides me with satisfaction that I don’t really find in other activities. Listening to it disconnects me from the outside world and releases some stresses in life. When I’m tense or when my other activities drain all my energy, I can just retire to my room, plug in my headphones and just listen to my favourite songs. I believe music has the ability to change any persons mood. It can be used to let out anger, sadness and happiness. The specific song I listen to can affect how I feel, it may make me cry, laugh, or even feel angry. Throughout history, people have used song to convey their messages. Songs are a powerful way to get your message across. They are our fears, our desires, our hopes, our dreams, our losses, our celebrations, our memories and our experiences. Each and every one of them are a story. The stories musicians tell and the themes that they communicate through music have a long lasting effect on the audience. Musicians and composers have the unique opportunity and responsibility to portray their stories that can empower and enable their listeners and fans to believe and relate to their own personal experiences. Take the National anthems for instance, singing ones National Anthem may it be in a stadium, hall or even at school has the absolute power to reinforce the feeling of pride and accomplishment of that nation. When people are representing their country and singing their national anthem anyone can notice the power of emotion it bestows on them. National Anthems are a portrayal of a countries history and culture and it presents their ambitions for the future. To some extent, a songwriter can be seen as a storyteller, singing about their experiences or feelings. Most songs revolve around a certain theme, such as friendships, love, pain, etc. Each song tells a different story, love songs can either be about falling in love or breaking up. Rap is a powerful example of how storytelling can be evident in music and song. Rappers are famous for rapping about an event that has happened to them or something they feel strongly about. Marshall Bruce Mathers, known by his stage name Eminem world wide is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter and rapper. Eminem bases the majority of his songs on his family, in particular his daughter Hailie, drug issues and legal troubles. One of Eminem’s songs that has the most effect on me his is song Mockingbird. I feel Eminem was referring to the book ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ where the mockingbird portrayed someone who is innocent but is a victim of circumstance and prejudice. In this song, Eminem’s daughter Hailie is the mockingbird as an innocent young girl, but she is unfortunately a victim because of the harsh circumstances surrounding the situation between her parents. Eminem blames himself for Hailies situation and he tries to comfort her telling her that he will always be there for her even when ‘mommys not there’. I know sometimes things may not always make sense to you right now But hey,  what daddy always tell you? Straighten up little soldier Stiffen up that upper lip What you crying about? You got me I feel that the words to this song hold a strong and emotional effect on me and I would presume that it would have the same effect to anyone else listening to it. Eminem is only one example of a particular artist that has a storytelling aspect in his songs that have an impact on me. I could name many more also, but I just want to end in saying I know music will always be important in my life because of how it has the power to change any mood.

“Everyday Use” by Walker Essay

Although I enjoyed â€Å"Everyday Use† by Walker, I did not find the first person point of view to be as effective as I would have liked it to be. By writing the story from mama’s point of view Walker denies the reader a chance to gain insight to how the other characters are feeling about the situation. The story tends to give the reader a bias opinion of the events that occur in the story. I believe that if Walker had used an omniscient point of view instead of a first person point of view the story would have been a lot more effective. Mama had a very bias opinion of Dee and by using her point of view for the story the reader may adopt her opinion. But had Walker used an omniscient point of view the reader could have gained insight into Dee’s thoughts and feelings. With the gained insight the reader would be given the chance to form his or her own opinion of Dee. Further insight into Dee’s thoughts and feelings would explain to the reader why Dee acts so superior to Mama and Maggie. The reader would get an idea of whether she really did feel superior or if she was trying to hide her true feelings. An omniscient point of view would also give the reader insight into Maggie’s thoughts and feelings. Being a younger sister myself I couldn’t help but wonder how Maggie felt about her sister. Mama gives the impression that Maggie feels about Dee the same way she does. With an omniscient point of view the reader would know whether or not this is true. When given more personal insight into characters I find that I feel more empathy towards them and enjoy the story more. It makes it more memorable and meaningful for me.

camaro essays 1968-1972 Chevrolet A-Body Production Totals A few years after becoming the owner of a pair of SS El Caminos and a GMC Sprint, I became interested in the production totals for these cars. I soon discovered that Chevrolet did not compile complete production records. There was some data available, but it was limited to three basic types. 1. Model totals. This showed the production totals for each of the different models. 2. RPO totals. At the end of each model year, Chevrolet would compile reports that showed how many of each Regular Production Option (RPO) were installed on the mid-size A-body assembly lines. 3. Tonawanda totals. The Tonawanda engine plant is where all the big-block motors were manufactured. These records show how many such motors were built for each model year. The number of motors built was usually more than the number of cars built (by about 2% to 20%) because some extra engines were normally built for service replacements. These totals were broken down by transmission type (automatic or manual), so they can be used to generate accurate estimates of the number of big-block cars with automatics and manuals. Separate totals were also recorded for the 2-speed automatic cars in 1968, as well as the heavy duty 3-speed manual cars in 1971-72. This may sound fairly complete, but it does not answer the type of question that is frequently asked, such as: "How many 1970 SS-396 Chevelle coupes were built". The answer to this and other similar questions will probably never be known for certain. The reason is that in any given year (after 1968) there is no way to know how many of the SS options were applied to coupes, how many were applied to convertibles, and how many were applied to El Caminos. Jerusalem Crickets, Family Stenopelmatidae Seeing a Jerusalem cricket for the first time can be an unsettling experience, even to those who arent prone to entomophobia. They look somewhat like giant, muscular ants with humanoid heads and dark, beady eyes. Although Jerusalem crickets (family Stenopelmatidae) are indeed quite large, theyre generally harmless. We know relatively little about their life history, and many species remain unnamed and undescribed. What Jerusalem Crickets Look Like Did you ever play the board game Cootie as a child? Imagine turning over a rock, and finding a Cootie come to life, staring up at you with a menacing expression! Thats how people often discover their first Jerusalem cricket, so its no surprise that these insects have earned many nicknames, none of them particularly endearing. In the 19th century, people used the expression Jerusalem! as an expletive, and thats believed to be the origin of the common name. People also believed (incorrectly) that these odd insects with human faces were highly venomous and potentially lethal, so they were given nicknames rife with superstition and fear: skull insects, bone neck beetles, old bald-headed man, face of a child, and child of the Earth (Nià ±o de la Tierra in Spanish-speaking cultures). In California, theyre most often called potato bugs, for their habit of nibbling on potato plants. In entomology circles, theyre also called sand crickets or stone crickets. Jerusalem crickets range in length from a respectable 2 cm to an impressive 7.5 cm (about 3 inches) and can weigh as much as 13 g. Most of these flightless crickets are brown or tan in color but have a striped abdomen with alternating bands of black and light brown. Theyre quite plump, with robust abdomens and large, round heads. Jerusalem crickets lack venom glands, but they do have powerful jaws and can inflict a painful bite if mishandled. Some species in Central America and Mexico can jump to flee from danger. When they reach sexual maturity (adulthood), males can be differentiated by females by the presence of a pair of black hooks at the tip of the abdomen, between the cerci. On an adult female, youll find the ovipositor, which is darker on the underside and located below the cerci. Females will often eat their male partners after consummating the relationship (much like the sexual cannibalism of female praying mantids, which is better known). The Life Cycle of  Jerusalem Crickets   Like all of the Orthoptera, Jerusalem crickets undergo incomplete or simple metamorphosis. The mated female oviposits eggs a few inches deep in the soil. Young nymphs usually appear in the fall, less often in the spring. After molting, the nymph eats the cast skin to recycle its precious minerals. Jerusalem crickets require perhaps a dozen molts, and almost two full years to reach adulthood. In some species or climates, they may need up to three years to complete the life cycle. Special Behaviors of  Jerusalem Crickets   Jerusalem crickets will wave their spiny hind legs in the air to repel any perceived threats. Their concern is not without merit, because most predators cant resist such a fat, easy-to-catch insect. They are an important source of nutrition for bats, skunks, foxes, coyotes, and other animals. Should a predator manage to yank its leg loose, the Jerusalem cricket nymph can regenerate the missing limb over successive molts. During courtship, both male and female Jerusalem crickets drum their abdomens to call receptive mates. The sound travels through the soil and can be heard via special auditory organs on the crickets legs. Where Jerusalem Crickets  Live In the U.S., Jerusalem crickets inhabit western states, especially those along the Pacific Coast. Members of the family Stenopelmatidae are also well established in Mexico and Central America and are sometimes found as far north as British Columbia. They seem to prefer habitats with damp, sandy soils, but can be found from coastal dunes to cloud forests. Some species are restricted to such limited dune systems that they may warrant special protection, lest their habitat be adversely impacted by human activities. Antony and Cleopatra Essay

This scene presents the readers with a brief preface to the universally known love story of Antony, the ‘triple power of this world’, and Cleopatra, his ‘wrangling strumpet’. The scene opens with two Romans, Philo and Demetrius, discussing the incredible power Cleopatra has over Antony and the remarkable change they can perceive in Antony’s character. Through Philo’s opening speech we are told that Antony’s former qualities included those of a strong-minded ruler and a valiant warrior, including physical prowess and military skill. However, the Romans now see him as a changed man who is no longer behaving like a ruler; instead of fulfilling the duties of a leader and returning to Rome, he is being ruled by a â€Å"tawny gypsy†. Thus, before meeting the lovers themselves, we are presented with the Roman attitude towards the relationship; responsibility and allegiance has been abandoned for love. We sense that Antony must be debating in his mind whether to pursue his passion or perform his duty, and those around him are anxiously waiting for him to embrace his role as a leader again and return to his former self. On observing the interaction between the two characters, I found myself accepting Philo’s objections to the relationship and his observations on Antony’s altered state, and studying the evident infatuation that is blinding Antony as he loses his sense of responsibility. Cleopatra is his self-indulgence, and he cannot entirely understand his great sexual passion for her. We know that his overindulgence leads to a loss of reason and control later in the play, and the disregard he expresses in this first scene towards his obligations makes us aware of the great power his passion has. â€Å"Let the Rome in Tiber melt, and the wide arch/of their love. † His indifference towards the news from Rome again illustrates how he is shirking his duties in Rome when under the spell of the exotic, mysterious eastern monarch. From the first scene, we learn of Cleopatra’s ‘tawny front’, entrapment of a great general and her ‘gypsy lust’. Her entrance is a grand one, accompanied by Antony, ‘her Ladies, the train, with Eunuchs fanning her’. Her authority and command as a ruler are emphasized, and as we then witness in the dialogue between the lovers, her power over Antony mirrors her political power. In this first scene, we see Cleopatra as both dominant and skeptical. ‘If it be love indeed’, she taunts Antony, ‘tell me how much. ‘ Antony, the ‘triple pillar of the world’ is ‘transform’d /Into a strumpet’s fool’ as he prepares to renounce all his power in exchange for Cleopatra. Cleopatra seems to love these assertions of love, as she is wary of the fact that she stands on loose ground, even though she is a seductress of the best abilities. Antony is married to Fulvia, and Cleopatra questions his love for his wife†¦ is it greater than the love he holds for her? We see here that her love for Antony is possessive, yet she too depends on it. Although she dominates Antony in the opening exchanges, her first line ‘If it be love indeed, tell me how much’ points to the ever searching, questing, explorative nature of her personality. She teases, wrangles and resists the definite, whilst playing on Antony’s weak spots, reminding him of his wife and public responsibilities. Thus, I feel the strongest aspect of the relationship that Shakespeare conveys here is highlighted when Antony tells Cleopatra ‘There’s not a minute of our lives should stretch/Without some pleasure now’: all is to be reduced and sacrificed for the sensuous, intense pleasure of the moment – hedonism is to predominate over duty and responsibility.

Planning an Expedition to Antarctica

Pg 2 Pg 2 We as a team will be investigating the effects global warming is having on the Antarctic landscape, we will also look at the effects that the change in the Antarctic landscape is having on other factors such as the dispersion of animals. To look at the change we will look at the rate of contraction of the land, the rate of ice break up, the rate of which a lake is created, the flow rate of Moulins, the rate of sea level increase. As well as this we will try to determine how the reduction of white land mass will further global warming and at what rate. This will be hard to do but one of the many techniques we will employ will be to take ice cores. We will stay in Antarctica for 1 year so we can experience the effects of global warming over the different seasons we will then return to Antarctica in 5 years and study the change in data. To meet safety obligations we have created a training schedule in which the members of the team will learn skills needed for the Antarctic expedition as well as this they will learn first aid and what to do if situations get out of hand (situations such as severe weather, avalanches, snow storms, or separation of the group) they will also undergo rigorous testing and psychological assessment to make sure they will be suited to the weather, environment, and lack of social interaction. This is the training schedule it will span over 2 years and will allow them to begin to experience what it will be like in Antarctica. They will go to the training place per month for 1-2 weeks. Article II Freedom of scientific investigation in Antarctica and cooperation toward that end, as applied during the International Geophysical Year, shall continue, subject to the provisions of the present Treaty. Article III In order to promote international cooperation in scientific investigation in Antarctica, as provided for in Article II of the present Treaty, the Contracting Parties agree that, to the greatest extent feasible and practicable: -a. information regarding plans for scientific programs in Antarctica shall be exchanged to permit maximum economy of and efficiency of operations; -b. scientific personnel shall be exchanged in Antarctica between expeditions and stations; -c. scientific observations and results from Antarctica shall be exchanged and made freely available. There will be three teams positioned at different spots in the Antarctic. This means that the results we get will be varied and will cover more area this way we can look at the effects over a vast area and see if global warming is affecting different areas at different rates or different ways. So if we could carry out research and find ou t whether the ocean circulation is changing then we could try to predict the effects. The rise of Ludwig van Beethoven into the rank of history’s greatest composers was paralleled by and in some ways a consequence of his own personal tragedy and despair. Beethoven’s family was of the Flemish origin. His mother, Maria Magdalena, died after a long illness when Beethoven was only 17. He was not the only child in this family though. He had 2 brothers and 1 sister, both to which were disorganized and unruly. His family was always in constant need of funds. Beethoven showed his extraordinary musical talent at an early age. His father hoped he could induce his child’s development and make him more like Mozart, and possibly bring in some money for the family which was desperately in need. As a child, Beethoven never was too interested in music even though he had the talents. Both his father and grandfather were experienced musicians and wanted him to be one also. At the age of four, Beethoven’s father began to teach him the violin and piano, but wasn’t successful in doing so because of his addiction to alcohol. His training was soon taken over by his father’s friend, Pfeiffer, but also, because of alcoholism, his lessons were just as irregular as before. Later, his grandfather’s friend taught him until he resigned in 1781 and Beethoven’s tuition was taken over by Van der Eeden’s successor, Christian Neefe. This man was not only a good teacher, but also a friend. Beethoven’s first composition was published in 1783. Then, in 1784 he attained his first independent position of a court organist and violinist, and in 1787 he was sent to Vienna to study. Here, he had the opportunity to play for Mozart who liked the work of Beethoven and told his friends â€Å"Watch that young man.† Beethoven studied with a man by the name of Joseph Haydn, but it didn’t work for very long because they couldn’t get along. Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 17th 1770 (although some sources say the 16th) in Bonn, Germany. His mother and father had five children although only three boys survived and Beethoven was the oldest of the three. His family was from Brabant, which is in Belgique. Beethoven’s father was a musician at the Court of Bonn, but he a severe alcohol problem. His mother was very kind and loving all the time. Even at an early age, he Beethoven showed an interest in music and his father, because he was a musician, taught him all day and night. His father knew he had a gift and hoped that he would become a new Mozart. His father did not know then but his hopes and dreams would later become a reality. Here’s an interesting side note: His father told the crowd he was six and from that point on, he believed he was two years younger than he actually was.
